Conversion question

Post by Zache82 »

I was browsing the File Conversion Help Wanted section of the forums and I came across (with many more great examples I'm sure).

http://www.plasmaspider.com/viewtopic.php?f=98&t=23875

I'm very new to all of this and I'm wondering how I go about learning to do this. Is there anything I can specifically google for? Or am I missing a category on these forums? Forgive me if this is the wrong place to post this. Thanks.

edit: To clarify a little more... I'm wondering how one takes a color image and makes it into a clean dxf file.

As Capstone said use Inkscape other art type programs will do the same or similar.

A little help the colors in an image form borders, doing a bitmap trace of an image it is broken up. The attached image shows a colored image, how a bitmap trace converts the borders. The next part shows it with the fill removed showing the only the outline of those borders. The last part shows how those borders are broken apart and can be separated.
You save it how you want as a DXF file with the “Save as” function.

Would all of this apply to a photograph? I've seen people vectorize photographs but have failed to do it myself in Inkscape.

It would depend of the Photo, if you have a photo like many with all kinds of thing in it no.
If you have one that shows an object on a very flat background it may work, there needs to be a way for any software to distinguish the features of the object to separate them.
