Showing off!

Post by LISA »

I wanted to share some of the things we have made using artwork from this site as inspiration or just using the artwork... This is my favorite forum even if it is not really for water jetters!

Love the semi firepit! What material did you use for the deer head silhouette?

The deer silhouette is cut out of mirror. It was one of our first attempts on glass.

How intricate do you think you can go with webs and small cutouts? How thick is the glass? Looks like it cuts square.....does it flare out in corners and are the edges smooth or do they need sanding? I have always wanted to cut mirrors and they are cheap at rummage sales.

I am just learning to cut mirrors/glass on the water jet. I have only done silhouettes because our Vac Assist does not work correctly and with out it piercing tends to crack the piece. Since a silhouette is a continuous line, I set up the pierce for the lead in off the piece. We have very good luck with that. I am hoping to figure out what is wrong with and repair the Vac Assist soon. That will be a game changer...

I cut on low pressure, fairly slow, on Dynamic and I get nice smooth edges with no bevel. I am told by a glass and mirror guy that the edges will have to be sealed to keep the back from flaking.

Thanks. I have thought of doing portraits and some other sort of intricate pieces. I don't have a water jet but there is one near my powder coater. Post pics of your future endeavors in mirrors. What exactly does the Vac Assist do? Does a water jet cut stone nicely?

Dave,
Basically the vac assist does not allow a delay between the abrasive and the start of a pierce which is what causes chipping, delamination and breaking. We have not cut any stone ourselves but we purchased this from a cabinet company that used it for stone. It does a great job.

Kidtech, I am sure it was! It went to a benefit for a soldier. I did not finish it, one of his buddies did. I will try to post a picture. We enlarged it too. It was a tough cut. Even out of 16 ga it was very delicate in spots.

You made a soldiers day...

Oh no I'm not looking for credit, if you can cut it out you have skill. It is a very difficult piece to make.
