Self-centering vise
I have been searching for a dxf of a self-centering radial vise and I know I seen on here but for the life of me I can't find it. I could also be searching the wrong things. Any help would be great. Thanks Kody

Re: Self-centering vise
I think you are talking about a Longworth Chuck. I seem to remember a thread about that on here.

Re: Self-centering vise
Over the years I have used several different chucks that were the 4 jaw self-centering type. One even had a 4 direction adjustment so you could correct any out of trueness in the chuck. Most of them only scrolled in the 4 jaws just like a three jaw does.

Re: Self-centering vise
The mechanical iris is what I was thinking. I'm thinking I could use that as a vise to hold a tube when I'm notching it. It should be able to keep the tubes on center line for cutting.

Might as well throw my two cents and three pics into the discussion.

Hemi
That is a nice design. It looks really strong. What size of tubing will it hold and have you made one yet?

Based upon baileigh model tn 250 tubing notcher. No I have not cut one, just decided to do a little research on your behalf. Tube size from 0.5" to 2.5". Should be relatively easy to plasma/laser cut and assemble.

That is the exactly the same one I have been looking at for a few days. Was on the fence about buying one or building a plasma notcher. Did you find that model on here?

That's great work. What are you designing it in? Solidworks? Would you be willing to share the dxfs?

Yes, that is slick! I made something similar a while back, it works but not as smooth as I intended. Would love to compare yours with mine someday.

Re: Self-centering vise
What would you use it for? Other than just to hold something? I have one on my pipe threader.
