Any Sundial you make needs to be designed for your location. Check out this site for how to make one for where you live, and then make whatever background shape you want.

Thank you for that link, have been on that site before I placed my request, Tried to use the creator on that site but the design that they come up with will not work for me, totally not looking like the one on the picture. The sundial on the picture above is on a wall not more than 10 kilometers from my house, also on the same orientation line than my house, direct line east west orientation and it is extremely accurate, If everything fails, I will have to climb up against that sundial and will have to go and measure it  but I would rather avoid that If possible

Thanks

I suppose you could take a straight on picture of it, then measure the dia. of the outer circle. Then you could trace the picture and size it to the dia. you measured. If we assume the bricks are 8" bricks, then it looks to be a little over 40" in dia.

I can't quite figure out from the picture how the shadow is cast on the dial.

I went to this website and printed off my own for my location. After the sun came out later in the day it seemed the time was pretty close. The V in the picture gets folded upwards and casts a shadow. The wind was a bit strong today and threw the clock off a bit by pushing the tab. The paper printed as PDF which in my software could be brought into my software and enlarge it. Only thing would be the scale of the tab that casts the shadow. Still pretty cool.

Steve, so what you are saying is that you cannot see the metal rod sticking out from the second row of bricks from the top, directly in a vertical line above the 12 at the bottom of the dial and casting a shadow just below the 8 on the right side of the dial ? This picture were taken just after 8'o' clock in the morning. The wall is on a direct east-west line with the clock face and rod pointing to north (remember we are situated in the southern hemisphere below the Tropic of Capricorn) and that may explain it a little better I hope ?

Thanks
Deon

PS your link above points to the same link previously posted by another member and that calculator totally wrong for our possition

See if this works for you. Print out the picture and see how close it comes to keeping time, only then would I cut metal. Hope it helps. :D :D
