Where no finger should go.

Post by sawdust1 »

Sticking my fingers where they do not belong.
Short version of a long story. I was holding my torch when I triggered it with the other hand.
Oddly enough no pain. I knew instantly because of the flash and let it go. Initially the hole was 1/8 inch deep, no blood, it was cauterized. Swelling had already lessened the depth when the photo was taken.
My coworkers brought in a car accident patient while I was in emerg and had a good laugh.
Not sure if I got the photo to show up.

Don't see the pic but it sounds painful... If not today then in a few days it's going to hurt like a bitch.

That is the benefit of being burned by plasma...instant cauterization. We had a customer that hand a hand cutter on a 150 amp plasma that blew out the back and put a nice hole in his hand. It just proves that we must be extremely cautious working around these powerful pieces of equipment.

Strange. My old Esab system had hi frequency start and the tech that worked on it would put the nozzle to his hand and pull the trigger to see if the hi freq would start. Not much happened, but that was how he checked for proper hi freq. I never tried it and don't regret it.

It looks to me like you got quite a bevel on that cut. You should check the O-ring on your torch.

Cleaned it, gave me some Flamazine and told me to wash it in saline and put the cream on it twice a day for a week. Surprisingly I did very little damage to it! Looked way worse than it is. I was cutting at 25 amps.
