Battleship Iowa Donation Box Game

Post by Craig »

After I made my fist donation box (http://plasmaspider.com/viewtopic.php?f ... 69#p104707)
I though why not have a donation box that gives something back. My hope is kids will pour quarters into it.
My brother Alan made the wood barrel and hand craved the “Naval Surface Warfare” logo.
The top is aluminum with copper spacers. The game board and bill tube are stainless. The black parts are powder coated mild steel.
The game is like a Pachinko machine the quarters can land in one of 4 slots that play sounds of the 16 inch, 5 inch & 40mm guns plus a mystery sound the top also has sound activated red LED’s.

Thanks Albert & everyone else.
Yes I very much enjoyed working with my Brother, we have a second project we are designing.
I have some pics of the inside and will post and explain how this works when I get it installed.

Here is a video of how the box works.

EBox1.jpg
I used a “Vernier Photogate” to detect the coin fall. It works like the safety at the bottom of most automatic garage doors.
http://www.vernier.com/products/sensors ... t#section4
EBox2.jpg
The “Photogate” plugs into a “Vernier Shield” that piggybacks onto an “Arduino UNO” and when a coin breaks the inferred beam the shield pulls the voltage to LOW on one of its output pins. The code I wrote reads this and tells the “Arduino” to pulls one of its output pins to HI.
https://www.vernier.com/engineering/ard ... un-shield/
EBox3.jpg
When the “MP3 trigger” detects a HI voltage on one of its 18 input pins it plays the MP3 file stored on its SD card with the same number as the pin. These products where not designed to work together and is why I used spring clips on the “Arduinos” output pins.

Here are the “Photogate’s” inside the game box.
p3.jpg
I had issues with the slope needed to get a coin to slide into the coin box and by getting the coin on edge it fixed that problem.

The red LED's.
