Love you more than Coffee

Post by djreiswig »

Found this cute sign, but I can't seem to get Inkscape to trace. When I open my trace in Draftsight the splines go crazy.

Import the SVG file into Inkscape.
Set files of type to - all images
path - trace bitmap
view - display mode - outline
save as - DXF file (change the settings on the DXF window as per picture)

Go to this post and watch the video that rdj357 posted it really helps to prepare some images for tracing with inkscape.

With help from acourjester in another thread, I traced it in Inkscape. When I go to open it in DraftSight the dreaded splines mess it all up for me. I get this. It looks like a nice smooth path in Inkscape. Just when I thought I had this tracing thing figured out...

There are software package the don't play nice with each other. Inkscape will allow you to save file in both DXF and SVG so I don't know why you want to go to DraftSight unless you cannot use those file formats. :(
Personally, I think it is very insecure for a company to make it so you can only play ball with their ball.

When I save as DXF in inkscape it makes splines. How can I get it to make polylines instead? The splines are the issue for me. I am familiar with DraftSight, that is why I use it. If I open files without splines it works fine.

Okay, I found some info on the inkscape forum that seems to work.
http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=12841
Apply 'Extensions > Modify Path > Flatten Bezier' first, then save a copy as DXF.
This gets rid of the splines.

I want to say thanks for the svg file. I really want to say thank you to Dave for the inkscape tutorial, I've been using Inkscape but that was a really good lesson. I tried DraftSight a long while ago and hated it. I find DeltaCad an inexpensive, very easy to learn program. I did as Dave's suggested and only had 19 intersections to repair and the file looks great!

Thanks for the file country1. Kind of forgot about this thread. I got the dxf figured out a while back and cleaned it up some, and then I guess I forgot to post it back. I haven't cut it yet.
