Pirate Face - School Sign

Post by jason.jason.p »

Hey all, I've been tasked with doing a welcome sign for a local elementary. The principal wanted their logo (probably a multi layer as she wants multi colored) I'm having trouble wrapping my head around how to go about this. Any advice you can offer would be very much appreciated.

She wants a little blue and yellow (the school's colors) and the rest to be black. Looking for a 36" Diameter circle that says "Welcome To Gosnell Elementary School" It will be Staked into the ground with the bottom of the circle 24" above ground.

I can give you a one layer cut ready file but not for free. Let me know if you're interested.

with the one layer file how would you suggest I go about adding the colors? cut a backing piece and paint it?

Can you give a ballpark estimate on what you would charge?

Thanks

here is the sign broken into color parts less the yellow ring on the outside, mount them on a white background.
You can paint the black parts and the face parts flesh and the letter another color. Assemble in a layered style
attached both DXF and SVG done with inkscape.

Cut it as a two layer with 4 sections. Back plate is solid but you'll have to add your hanging holes to it. Then the white circle with the name. It's cut out to let the black from the back plate show through. Then there are two face pieces and two scarf pieces. Secure those to the black plate. I suggest using a spacer between the black and white circles just to give it a bit more dimension.

Post a picture when you get it cut and painted. I want to see this one.

If the buccaneer's scarf was orange, it would be my school logo.

Wow! Thank you so much acourtjecter and RobinHillMachine!!! Both of you have gone above and beyond, I never expected or asked for this to be done free of charge. I would have happily paid icmplasma85 or either one of you for your services.

The community on this forum is fantastic and seems to get better with every new contributing member! I do my best to give back to the community in any way I can and hopefully one day I can return all the favors I've racked up lol

I will definitely be posting pictures of the finished product. Thanks again for the advice and conversion!!

Always nice to a project from start to finish, it helps to give other an option to see how a drawing can be modified to enhance the final product.

I used 8-32 screws and nuts. I welded the nuts to the back side of the pieces and drilled holes through the backing plate. Everything is fastened from the back side to hide the all the fasteners.

Sorry all, I forgot to add the picture of it installed. I was planning on getting a better picture since I wasn't happy with the lighting at the time this photo was taken but anyway here it is.

I love how you spaced the welcome to let the shadows go thru like that. It came out fantastic!

Thank you, The welcome and the white parts are spaced 3/4" off the back piece. All the pirate head parts are spaced roughly 3/16" off the back (the thickness of the nuts used)
