Archlight Dynamics Plasma head will not stop diving

Post by wghughes7 »

I have an Archlight Dynamics 5x10 plasma with Mach 3. When it starts to cut a new file the head will dive and hit the metal and keep trying to go down. It will not pop back up and cut like it is supposed to. Has anyone had this problem before?

You likely have the arc voltage set too low on the height control. Lower voltage equals lower height.....if it is too low the torch will try to dive through the material to achieve that lower voltage. Increase the arc voltage then adjust it until the physical height is correct based on recommendations in your plasma cutter operators manual for torch to work distance.

For the best help I would suggest calling your supplier,Arc Light Dynamics.....I understand they are very good at tech support for their products!

What should my arc voltage be? Im cutting 16ga mild steel. I have cut this with no problems until now. I cannot find what the arc voltage should be anywhere.

I called Archlight and the tech helped me figure out that it was the z axis switch that lets it know it hit the metal. A new one is in the mail! Thank ya'll for the help!
