Storage of mild steel / humidity / rust questions

Anyone have any tips on storing mild steel in your garage, keeping it from rusting? I live in Wisconsin and the humidity is a killer.

Here in western Washington we have heavy humidity in the winter months. I store my sheet materials vertically and mist them w/ WD/40 before putting them in the rack. Helps a lot.

Why vertical? What do you use to clean it off so paint will stick?

g store mine vertical too saves space.. i also spray with wd40 seems to be working so far. asfor getting the oil off i either use brake cleaner orpaint thinner or it goes in the acid.
is it a pain yea.is it messy yea can be. but it works and its not too expensive. ispray mine from gallon can in one of those sureshot rechargeable pressue sprayers. (brake cleaner gets same treatment but from a 5 gal can)

It's not recomended to clean with brake cleaner if it requires any welding or heating as it can quite easily kill you or permanently ruin your respiratory system. Have a read through the attached link
