Staying with the excel version unless some has figured a way for the program to accept input data and save it.
If this is the app you are referring to: http://plasmaspider.com/viewtopic.php?f=88&t=17569
Follow the entire thread, I had the same issues and it has to do with where Windows is storing your files. It is saving your files with changes but in a location the program is not looking for them. You have to move them to the PlasmaEst folders and overwrite.

Are you referring to the DD Metal Products Plasma Estimator? If you go into the File -> Setup, this should update your particular setup variations, steel prices, pierce charges, etc.

Hello all - we are new to the CNC world and have been surfing around for a good way to figure prices on our product. I see that an Excel spreadsheet was shared a while back, but I dont' see a link or attachment to the post. How do I go about being able to see it? I saw something that said about becoming a contributing member???

Any help is appreciated. Thanks so much.

Thanks for .xls, I will play with it over the next week and see if I can get the boss to sign off on using it.

One question, how is everyone figuring up cut inches? I understand pierce points, and after a certain number on really intricate pieces, I assume folks just flat rate it?

Thanks in advance.

Never mind, read further down the forum and found that Sheetcam has a report for cut inches and number of pierce points.

Thanks.

How do you figure inches cut? It there somewhere in inkscape, sheet-cam or Mach that shows the total inches to be cut?

You can roughly figure cut inches in InkScape by selecting the image and going to "Extensions" > "Visualize Path" > "Measure Path"
Make sure the image is made into a complete combined Path.

In sheetcam, do a jet report. The icon is in the upper left corner of the screen. Tells elapsed time, pierces and length.

Does it need to be put into a .tap file? I tried with a dxf and it didn't work.
thanks for the help?

I tried this with a .svg file, but I couldn't see anything that looked like approx cut length/inches. Does it need to be
in a .dxf file or am I missing something?
thanks for the help!!!

For artsy/trinket stuff, I price the item whatever I think it's worth if I charge at all. I usually only do that kind of work for friends and family. It's just not worth it for me to mess with by the time I add up CAD time, cut time, picky customers that want more than they're willing to pay for, etc. My machine makes its money on contract parts. For that, I want my machine to make $200/hr+....so I take cut time in minutes and multiply by $3.50/min, then add the price of steel with a 50% markup on the steel.

This pricing is probably low but, I nest half sheets with little waste. I do this in volume and it leaves a little meat on the bone for the customer. The beauty of going by the minute is that on thicker material, the slower cut already has a price increase built in because I charge by the minute.

To generate a "job report" work from the bottom pic up.....I can't put them in the correct order.....

-Import your drawing
-Edit Contours
-Apply jet cutting operations
-Click on the icon that looks like a pencil and paper (job report)
-choose "job summary" click OK
-your info should be on the generated page.....it is printable should your customer question time or length.

Just insert the images in reverse order, last one first, first one last.

THANK YOU!!! It worked perfectly and gave me what I was looking for! I don't do much that I charge for as we use our
machine mostly for our parts and personal things. But it's nice if someone is willing to pay me and makes it easier for me
to give them a fair price.

You are very welcome! Glad I could help. If I remember correctly, one of the local steel shops is charging .17-.21 a linear inch and possibly .25 per pierce.

Hey guys! I'm new to this forum (been in the background soaking up info for a couple months) and also new to CNC plasma cutting. I have been scouring the web for pricing info. I've downloaded the excel page and the phone app to compare the two and figure out what works best/easiest for me. That has brought up a couple questions I have relating to specific price points. Sorry ahead of time for the ignorance of question number one. lol
1. what is it referring to when it says "total indexes"? (I asked a buddy that has had his table for almost a year and he was also unsure.)
2. How are you guys figure out your "Price Per Cut Inch"? Is the cost of the metal x 50% + a fee for cutting?
3. What are you guys currently charging for Design time and Price per pierce?

I haven't seen anything updated on these prices anywhere, which I think it could help some other people out also. Thank You, in Advance for any help for this NOOBY.
