non-issue --- Value on Used 8x4 Plasma Table Needed

Post by Capstone »

Hey everyone,

I am trying to put a real-world value on this 8x4 Plasma Table that I'm interested in.

Here's the details as I know them along with some pics:
It's a FAST-CUT CNC Table with CandCNC ESP II Servo control set-up. The cutter would not be part of the deal. It's pretty much sat in this condition for 5 years or more and I'd have to go through it myself.

It's not currently running, something to do with the PC or the "Z" axis issues, the current owner isn't interested in fixing it since he used it for one big job 7 years ago. I am sure I'd have to upgrade to LinuxCNC, but for now, I'd just like to see what you feel would be a fair offer. Full disclosure, I'm trying to balance this suggested market amount against a trade for value offer I have planned with equipment I recently acquired, but don't need. I'm hoping to reach a win/win situation trade situation so both of us get what we want that's fair.

Thanks in advance for your help

Finding out what broke has a big effect of the value. If they broke a mechanical part or did they smoke something. Question also weather you can still get parts from CandCNC or like you said switching to linusCNC and trash the original Electronics.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I realize the question is half baked. I already heard back from the guy and he's holding out for a miracle offer in cash to make it worth his while to dig it out of the corner of his shop, which is buried in the corner behind a bunch of very heavy machinery. (CNC Lathe, monster mill, etc)

It's basically worth scrap metal prices if nothing works. I'd walk.

You're looking at dropping about $2,500 on all new electronics and software, so you're basically buying a gantry setup and the table frame. You could buy a new gantry from Precision Plasma for $3k, and build the frame for under a grand, so best case you're buying $4k worth of stuff. I'd offer him less than that, since you're going to be spending time dicking around with this thing to figure out what's wrong with it, and may need to sink some $$ into mechanical parts.
