Some Quotes.....

Post by bhamer62 »

I'm a Project Manager for a custom steel fab shop, I quote stuff all day.... every now and then you get one that makes you shake your head a little. I thought I might share one with you. See attached photo: there are 26 different shapes in all, this is just a random sampling. They want 460 pcs. of each shape, of course we would sort them and individually bag them. They are 304 SS, so you ain't picken up with no magnet...lol The machine wasn't dialed in to cut these, I just wanted to see how they would look for quoting purpose. I am not complaining, I will quote about anything a customer asks for, this was just a little out of the ordinary and caught me off guard.

Oh man, that just looks like a ton of fun. You cutting those with plasma or a laser?

Maybe you could come up with some type of funnel or something to put under the table, and have all the parts slide down into a bucket or tray as they are cut. Lot less time on the floor that way.

If that's plasma I'm packing in :)

Not dialled in! looks great to me, you won't be cutting those all in one go I bet, be a nightmare trying to sort those, sounds like a good idea with the funnel.

Will cut on a Trumpf Laser. It has a conveyor under it 5 feet wide that runs the full 10' length under the table and offloads under the pallet changer. I will nest the parts so they are grouped and put lil boxes at the conveyor discharge end and let em drop in. Some jobs are just better to pass on, this might have been one of them.... Too much screwin around counting and recutting lost pcs isn't very profitable. No, I'm not whining, just one of those oddball jobs that can catch you off guard.

Capstone, lol, that's exactly what i said when I got the inquiry, Lucky Charms.......

Gamble, I put them at about $0.40 each piece, which is about 5 times what the actual cost is, but it will take a lot of extra fussin around. You actually have more scrap metal in your skeleton than you do in sell-able goods, plus I cut them in a min heat mode to minimize warpage.

Bill, I would definitely save the drop. would probably make for some pretty cool bendable decorative sheet, assuming it stays together

What kind of finish is required on these pieces and out of curiosity what finish will you be starting with, 304 polished #3, 2b? :D
