Pneumatic Air Scribe Hammer

Post by RandyL »

Has anyone tried one of these for a plate maker?
Curious how well it works considering the down pressure from the air cylinder may work against the scribe hammer.
I am in process of adding plate maker to my bladerunner table.

Thanks in advance for any info.

I have one and I run the air cylinder down pressure as about 5 PSI I use 2 regulators one for scribe and the other for down cylinder.

I will order one and install, once I figure out how make / mount cylinder slide.
thanks for the reply. I assume your hammer scribe works well.

What settings have you played with so the engraver doesn't dig in at the beginning and end of the cut? I've got the regulator turned down about as low as it'll go, cylinder won't extend if I lower it much more, and have set the delay time to 0 and yet it still digs in at the beginning and end.
Have you done any marking on painted surfaces? To give more contrast we cut the part out, painted it, and went back to engrave it, doesn't look terrible but I thought it'd come out cleaner

Yes, if your scribe is mounted to the side of the torch mount. I do all my scribing first then plasma cut. Scribe set up as a tool in SheetCam and yes you have to put the offset in the SheetCam post processor. I did not do this it was done by the table builder, LDR, but I know it was done.

You set that up in SheetCam you just use 2 tools one for plate marking using the layer or contour in the svg/dxf file. Then after all plate marking is done do the other layers using the plasma tool.
