Trying to Figure Out Textures

Saw the piece below and I am wondering how do you get those kinds of textures? For example the circles on the base and textures on the body of the horses.

Also, what about the texturing on the cabin in the piece below?

Can't blow up the pics enough to see but it appears the texture is created by various grit discs on a 4" grinder.

Google "applying texture with grinder" or similar.

Sorry, didn't realize I attached the small pics. Here are some that are bigger so hopefully you can see more of the detail. What do you think? How do you get the dark swirl rings? I can see how you would get the light colored stuff. Are the dark rings just done with the torch?
