Newbie question - Powder coat and a scribe

Post by Vern2 »

Hi all,

You guys know I'm a real beginner, I don't have my table built yet. I was wondering if powder coat plays nice with marks left with a scribe? Probably not!

Maybe I should ask it this way. What do you use when you might want the scribe marking to show, on a finish product?

Anything you can feel with your fingernail will show up in a powdercoated finish. Of course how well depends on the thickness of the powder and the depth of the marking. Stampings on truck rims are very readable after powder coating, but you may have to look hard for light scratches.

Thanks guys, Great answers.

Was thinking If I painted over scribe letters and numbers, it would become invisible writing. Was looking for cons on installing a scribe. I could see myself talking to a customer, "Your name is there, Trust me." :?
