air brush finishing with dyes

Post by little blue choo »

I just purchased some Steel F/X dyes and when I go to use them in my airbrush they seem to be too thin and splatter when I first start to spray. I have cut my pressure down and pull my trigger back very slowly but they still splatter. I am using a gravity feed 2 stage internal mix air brush with a .3 mm tip. Do I need to use a .2mm tip or what. Can someone give me your basic settings and equipment used.
Thanks
Rick

Do you have a water separator? I had trouble too with splatter until my husband installed one and after that I had about no trouble.

Found the trouble. When I cleaned the airbrush last I failed to get the needle seated all the way in. It was allowing dye to run by it and puddle in the tip. When I started to apply air it would spit dye before I pulled back for the dye.
