When you type text on the screen it does not have a path and will not be saved in the file you make. :o
If you want an outline of the text click on the text to highlight it (box around it) the go to fill and stroke, click on the X under fill that will remove the image of the text. Now click on stroke and you will see an outline of the text. With it highlighted go under path and click on "object to path" this will convert the text to a path. If you click on the Node tool you will see the nodes of the path.

In Corel, just type out your text, then right click on it and select "Convert To Curves". and it will then be ready to edit as needed. If you want to edit just one letter (say connect the center of an "o") then right click again, select "Break Curve Apart" and each letter can then be manipulated as needed.
