need help with sizes

Post by kennye »

Has anyone seen a video on u tube on how to size in inkscape this has been a major hurdle for me from the start
I can size it and then by the time I transfer it to sheetcam its not changed from the original I look at a lot of videos on u tube and I mean a lot
but when it gets to sizing they talk about pixles or something else other than inches. or the video ends is there another program that i could use.

I haven't had any issues with sizing. Here's what I do:

Before I start drawing or import anything, I go to 'File,' 'Document Properties.' I make sure that my default units are inches, then I go down to 'Custom Size' and change those numbers to whatever my target size is for what I'm working on (I also make sure to change the dropdown box here to inches). That gives me an outline on the main work screen of my target size.

Hope this helps.

If you want to change the size in Inkscape, on the tool bar above you will see areas with dimensions. you can change the size of the any highlighted areas (one with the arrow box around them) or the entire drawing by drawing a highlight box around all of it. First click on the lock icon to close it, then change one of the H or W values this will make it the size you want and keep the aspect ratio the same. Use the + and - keys to change the size the viewing screen to zoom in or out.

What's your import scale factor in sheetcam? Number on the left side of the import box that pops up, when you bring your picture in. 1:1 Shouldn't change anything, as long as your drawing units were in inches.

Are you saving the drawing in SVG if so when you go to SheetCam you need to change the scaling from 1:25.4 to 1:1
