Inkscape question

Ok so Im making a sign and I have the objects placed then add the font I combine it all together then save it DXF and then I open it in my plasmacam v311 software and the text is not there but the other objects are there... What am I doing wrong?

You have to select the text then "Path">"Object to Path"

AS stated all parts need to have a "path" for it to be saved as DFX or SVG both work. Now to find out if they have paths click on the icon shown in the image and then move you mouse curser over you project if you see it flash red as the curser crosses over it then it has "paths". Also many parts will have small boxes all over the drawing these are called nodes and you can manipulate these to make changes in the paths. But that is another thing to learn.

BTW, don't get frustrated with inkscape and give up. It does a a rather large learning curve BUT you can do amazing things with this free piece of excellent software. I clearly remember when I could not figure out why my text did not show up in my DXF files either. ArcLight Dynamics has great learning videos on their website.

Thanks Ill work on it... I have been playing with Inkscape there is a lot of videos on Youtube ... Ill check out the link.

I will just add, as I have on other threads; if you're using Inkscape and SheetCAM, save yourself the hassle and just stick with the .SVG file format. There's absolutely no need to convert those files to DXF anymore. SheetCAM opens .SVG files perfectly.
