CandCNC PWM fault

Postby BensPlasmaAu » Fri Oct 07, 2016 4:37 am

Has anyone had a CandCNC PWM controller die on them. Mine is stuffed, i am in pretty dire need to get it back up and running, and it could be 2 weeks till i can prganise delivery of a new ine to Australia. I was wondering if there is a way to diagnose it further, like down to conponent level and attempt to repair it myself to get me by.

The fault is that it does not respond to Mach3 telling it to fire the torch. The CPC can be jumped between the pins and it fires the plasma and also the terminals on the PWM can be jumped and cause the plasma to fire.

I had a PWM die but totally different the +5 volt led was out. Ended up I had to send both the PWM and DTHC packages in and they quickly repaired them, all are working fine now. Have you tried to replace the Cat 5 cable from the DTHC and the PWM, I would think the torch fire command is just passed through the PWM with no electronics involved, like the arc OK signal.

BTA Plasma, I'll give that a go when i get to the workshop this morning.

Jester, the arc ok light is constantly on as well. I will give changing the cat 5 cable a go as well.

I have a new unit on its way to me now. hopefully USPS priority will get it here by the end of next week if it leaves CandCNC this afternoon their time.

Muzza,

Hopefully you read this thread again. I have sent a PM, but it's stuck in the outbox and i can't figure out why it's not into the sent items. Seeing as your PM's get to me and mine don't get out, PM me your phone number.

the PM stuck in the outbox will stay there until the person you are sending it to picks it up.
I had the same question some time back and Admin gave me this reason

If the RED torch LED on the PWm does not come on then:

the DTHCIV fires the torch. Here is how it works. If it gets a fire signal from the UBOB up through the 16 pin ribbon cable to the DTHC card then it will fire IF (and this is important) it has a valid WD (Watchdog) signal from the 4 port hub , YOu can open the Hub Utility (MACH not enabled) and in the DTHC settings you will see a screen indicator for WD. If it is ON you have that signal. If you do not the hub is not sending it.

You can bypass it one the DTHCIV card . Find the two pin header marked WD Bypass. Jumper those two pins and no all it takes is the fire signal from the UBOB to trigger the torch. Its not harm to run it this way as long as the hub really is working and you have control over the DTHC for setting the parameters from code.
