file for plasma cam table cover on the bottom

Post by gocanes719 »

I saw a table yesterday that had sheet metal cut and screwed on the table. It had metal cut the shape of the table with a door cut our on one side to clean out underneath the table. This really helped keep down dust and protected all of the cords and hoses around the machine.

I cut some sheet metal in the shape of an upside down pyramid, assembled it together with sheet metal screws and used the existing bolt holes on the table to mount it.

I too have a door to help remove parts and scrap out of the bottom.

I also attached a 5 horse blower system to pull cutting dust out before it has a chance to get all over the shop. :D

elkriverfab,

Would you be offended if I were to ask you to share a picture of the way you set up your table below?

Thanks,

Greg

Ironhorse,

I will see if I can get you a picture of the setup.

The dust collector is a Zern dust/spark collector.

It is basically a cage fan with an inlet and an outlet that I attach round duct to.

It sucks air and dust from under the table and blows it outside.

I also added a splitter and ran a plastic dryer vent hose up through the cables and down to the torch.
This sucks smoke from the top while cutting.

The dryer hose is flexible and moves freely with the gantry while it cuts, helps with top cutting smoke.

I will say it works great and is real primitive compared to other setups.

The cage fan allows all kinds of crap to go through without effecting the blower motor.

I bought it off of ebay from a used equipment company auction, paid a ridiculous $10.00 for a several hundred dollar setup.

You can use a regular furnace fan cage motor to build one as well for real cheap.
Just make sure you add a place to run inlets and outlets.

I looked at other options but most had dust collector bags and I didn't want to mess with bags of cutting dust all the time.
I just wanted this stuff out of my shop.

So.....It just blows it all out and you never have any piles of steel dust. Usually the wind or breeze disperses it out.

As far as the sheet metal under the table, I bought some galvanized sheet for ducts and pre cut the pieces and took them down to a shop that had a big bending break.
They bent the edges, I took them home and assembled it with sheet metal screws.

I then drilled it to fit the tables bolts so I would not have to drill, cut or damage the table any.

It just bolts under the table.

I can see others have some great setups for dust but I can say mine is much smaller, much cheaper and really gets the dust OUT FAST!

I built mine like I did because funds dictated what I could build and shooting it outside was not a concern.

The Samsom setup look great though, SWEET!

I will see if I can get you some pictures.

Ironhorse....

Here is the basic concept.

This is not mine but someone's off of yahoo's plasmacam user group.

Looks like they had the same idea too.

Mine is just like this one but on one side I added a round duct to attach the blower to.

It is tapered like a pyramid at the bottom and allows you to get parts out that fall in, I also added a door so I could reach in and get things out without having to kill myself from the top on those long reaches. :D

Looks like he also has an orb flying around his shop, must be haunted in there

Hope this helps.

Hey Shawn
Your setup looks great. Have you ever though about setting up your jack with an air jack with a long arm to be able to pull it out with out having to crawl under the table? Sorry that I didn't get the pick of the bumper hoist posted. I had everything under the sun come up and it's been crazy. I will be glad when this year is over. I will try to get it set up and then get them posted be for the end of the year  I still have to figure out how to get all my pic's into a zip file I have a lot of them to post . Have a great holidays. :D
