Plasmacam-samson table grate trouble

Post by BrianMick »

Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone has ever used 3/16 steel for the tablegrates.... I m looking to build a beefier grate top so it does not sag so bad in the middle after a while...its been causing a lot of cut quality issues with the torch hiegth control because there is an inch difference from center of table to the edge....has anyone done this...is there any drawbacks ... does it last longer......any feed back is appreciated.......thanks..........

My Dynatorch uses 3/16 x 4" for the grates, it is pretty rigid across the span.

Brian,
I made my new grates out of 1/8 in. they are great.been in use over three years. I made each one in two pieces since i didn't know how to index back then.Still worked out great. Cut 1/2" steel with no problem . Takes a 4x10 sheet. i put it together on work table then lifted it up with fork lift to set on frame. You will have the same problem with melting the grate point but it will take longer I cut most every day
