Torch dive

Post by snagcreek »

What would cause a Plasmacam DHC1 torch to cut something out perfectly fine, then cut again and start diving/hitting the material?
Plasma machine ground is attached to grate.
Machine and grates are earth grounded.
Cut speed and height are per plasma manual.
Will cut OK for a bit then start going haywire.
Can cut 1 piece OK, then try cutting another, it starts diving into the material shutting off the table knocking the torch out of alignment and burning up another consumable.

Any Help Please
Thanks

Best bet is to join the Plasmacam Owners Community with this question. You will need your machine serial number to join....then post the question on their forum and a few thousand users will see it and respond with help.

It is also best if you post what plasma system your are using....as well as your correct machine model number.....Plasmacam never made a DHC1, there is a DHC and a DHC2 and the height controls operate differently.

Things that will cause a height control to dive into the material:

-Cutting to close to an edge or an already cut kerf
-Slowing the cut speed without re-adjusting the height control
-Loose work ground connection.
-Dirty, build up slag on slats (run a jumper wire same size as work ground, from the work ground directly to the material being cut...make sure the connection is clean.
-Water in your air lines.
-Varying air pressure to system
-Incorrect height control settings.
