plasma cam cutting contured metals

Post by noplacetosail »

Hello again,

Just donated and will continue, thanks for this forum! New issue. We get 2' by 2' peices of 3/16" steel free (really)
The only issue is that they are from a local tank maker and have a slight radius. So, We are using a hypertherm 1250
with fine cut tips (thanks jim colt) with a plasmacam DHC2
How do we get this to work?

Cutting your contoured pieces will work fine on the PlasmaCam as long as the height change in your plates is less than about 1-1/2".....the z axis has about 2" of total travel. Onece you set up your cuts and activate the height control functions correctly...it will follow the contour of the plate perfectly.

He could also park his car on the plate overnight on a concrete slab.

Good to see you around Jim. I have read many of your post and they are of course, spot on.

2 questions in relation to this;

has anyone ever tried rust converter which converts rust to magnetite then cutting as opposed to sandblasting ?

Has anyone cut a plow disk (round, with a 2" crown in the middle) with a plasmacam ?
