Replacement torch for a hypotherm powermax 45

Post by 9731Diesel »

Was wondering if there was a replacement torch for the 45t torch. Was hoping there was a replacement that offered fine cut consumables.

Yes there is. You can order the same torches used on the Powermax45XP, 65, 85 and 105 for use on the original Powermax45. This will allow the use of Finecut consumables and will give you longer consumable life as compared to the original torch. If you let me know what torch lead length and is it a hand torch or machine torch I can help with part numbers. Jim Colt Hypertherm jim.colt@hypertherm.com

Jim I wasn't aware of being able to use the 45XP torch on the Powermmax 45 original either. Does this mean I can swap my Powermax 45 machine torch on my Torchmate 2 x 4 to use the 45 XP machine torch without need to change the power supply to the 45XP?

It certainly does!
I swapped last year, getting far more consistent cuts with edge angularity now, the finecuts are superb as well.
For feed rates and volts use 45XP chart, strangely volts are very close whereas the old torch was around - 10v to book!
It's a good upgrade I would say.
I should have just bought the torch but thought a upgrade to the XP was in order, had problems maybe with my machine so sold the XP unit and use the old 45.
The lock switch on the XP torch doesn't work on the old 45 though.

Hi Guys,

I am also looking to replace my Powermax 45 machine torch with the new powermax 45 XP duramax torch. But its a bit confusing. I have seen in some websites that it is clearly stated that the torch will not work with a powermax 45. Link to site below. If possible can someone please send me the part number for the duramax torch that will work with the powermax 45? I need a machine torch of either 25 foot or 35 foot length.

Link to site where it says this wont work with powermax 45 : https://www.weldingsuppliesfromioc.com/ ... rch-088167

And in an earlier post in this group the same torch was recommended to buy as a replacement for the powermax 45. Link to that : https://www.harrisweldingsupplies.com/h ... ch-088167/

Does this torch work or not? Lol.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Well I did buy the 45XP to replace the old 45 a year ago, I had problems with my table and the 45XP so ended up keeping the XP Duramax torch with the old 45 and have been using it every day since then, it's a good upgrade both finecut and the 45a parts.
The only thing that doesn't work is the switch on the torch, maybe that's what they are referring to.

It doesn't actually show the machine torch that comes with the 45xp on that pdf, it's a black plastic construction, think I prefer it to the white tube version.

It's that material, but that one is shorter and I don't see the switch on there.

I found this on https://www.harrisweldingsupplies.com/h ... de-059477/ which says its an upgrade for the powermax 45. And then there is the original powermax 45xp torch which was posted earlier on here. This one https://www.harrisweldingsupplies.com/h ... ch-088167/

So which one is it?

Oh... No I see what you are talking about.... The button is a feature of or for the XP only I believe as the nonXP 45 will not have the wiring for it.

. The torch disable switch on the side allows for fast change out of consumables by not having to recycle to powerextracted from the second link on the previous post
