Using Hand torch with PM 105 Hypertherm

I have a PM Hypertherm 105 hooked up to a 5 x 10 Precision plasma cnc table with a candcnc controller, hyt control and digital torch height control as well. (Love the setup,by the way. I highly recommend it to everybody. Them guys are top-notch).
My question is probably for Jim Colt, is it possible to un plug my machine torch lead and plug in a Hand torch lead and then cut free hand? I tried and the torch fired but didn;t create a arc. Am i missing something?

I use my 85 with a hand torch a lot. You did move the ground to the part you were cutting? I disconnect the CPC and RS485, not sure if I need to but I do.
