1/2" steel with powermax 65

Post by btburn »

The settings chart I have says I need to edge start to cut 1/2" steel on my table.
Are there any setting that would work to not have to edge start?

Isn't 5/8" the max piercing thickness with THC, I would see how it does first.

We don't edge start when cutting 1/2". I do knock the dross away from the pierce point after it starts cutting. We also leave the torch height control turned on because of bowed steel and it makes beautiful cuts.

The Powermax65 cut chart for the 65 amp shielded consumables allows for piercing up through 5/8". You must be looking at the wrong cut chart.

Chart and consumables used are attached....this was copied from the Powermax65 operators manual. Jim Colt Hypertherm
