(resolved) Broken Machine Torch retaining ring

Post by Capstone »

Jim,

So is there a way to just order this??

If so, what's the part number and can I order it directly from Hypertherm?

Thanks in advance

I see in the PM45 Operator manual on page 91 this...
PM45 torch parts.JPG
PM45 torch parts.JPG (43.23 KiB) Viewed 677 times

Part# 228322 Kit: T45m front mounting ring but that appears to force me to do a lot more disassembly to the torch than is really necessary and buy the brass portion too, which is not broken... any help would be super.

I think you answered your own question....if the part pictured in the manual is the part you need...and there is a part number for it...then you can order it from any authorized distributor. It is always best to contact tech service at Hypertherm....they can answer these questions better than I can! 800 643 9878 or technical.service@hypertherm.com Jim

Just Curious, how much did that little part end up costing, I realized I could use the same part as well. One of the screw inserts is missing from mine for the gear track fastener. Did you have to buy the extra piece with it or just the piece in your picture.

Cheers,
Ed

I honestly forgot it's been so long. Less than $20bucks , but not much. I end up jerry-rigging the end of the torch with a hose clamp to better stabilize the whole thing. My torch keep diving into my work and ruined the second ring as well. Now I just don't use the DTHC IV. It's entirely too wonky with MACH3 and SheetCAM to be worth the chance of more damages. I can't cut above speeds of 100ipm anyways. Every time I think of my setup for more than 10mins I get pissed that it's not working as it should with hi-speed thin metal.

Hi Phil

Not on subject but just asking regarding your comment in the above post

"Now I just don't use the DTHC IV. It's entirely too wonky with MACH3"

What do you mean when you are saying its just too wonky with MACH 3 :?:
Is it something that can be worked out with help or have you just given up :?: :?:
I am sure with all the knowledge on this site it could get sorted ;)
Best Regards to all

Exapprentice, It's called a low ROI for my time. The DTHC is IMHO only useful on 16ga and thinner metal and only when it's working perfectly. Right after I rebuilt my table for the 4th time trying to eliminated shudder problems at the tip of the torch, I briefly had DTHC working, but once again, software changes in the food chain have starting messing things up and I ran out of patience for finding out why it stopped working reliably again. Changing the CandCNC "Z" settings reduced the hyper sensitivity and that definitely helped, but that got derailed with what I think was a SheetCAM update. I was using a significant amount of path rules to control the vibration of the torch for thin metals at the corners and in tight spaces. This latest SheetCAM update does not seem to play nice with MACH3 or CandCNC and suddenly I have pauses as path rules are being executed by MACH3. So either the post processors and SheetCAM or MACH 3 started fighting with my PC and the EtherCUT system so I just went back to no DTHC and no Path Rules and never going faster than 100ipm on simple cuts or 80ipm on items with lots of sharp corners.
