Hypertherm T100 torch
Hi plasma cutters!
I just bought an used powermax 1250 g3 with the T100 hand torch.
When i run the air flow test, i feel air comming from the upper end
of the cap shield. Feels like the torch wastes a lot of air where it not supposed to.
Is this normal on the T100 torch?

Sounds like you are missing the 0-ring that goes at that end

Nope, that o-ring is there.

is the oring good?....did you inspect it for cuts? Is the torch body cracked?

Thank's for your fast response!
Could not see any damage on the o-ring.
(I placed an order for a set of all consumables and a new o-ring)
I haven't open the torch yet, is there any couplings or such inside
that could leak?

If it's a similar design to my PM45 machine torch it has a fitting inside which on mine leaked from new.

I opened up the torch today. Seems like everything is in order.
Gotta be that o-ring or a worn out cap shield....i'll wait for the
consumables and hope for the best.

It is 100% normal for a small amount of air to exit around the top of the retaining cap. If your cut pressure is sett correctly (LED's on front panel are satisfied when air is flowing) then you should be in good shape. The air that leaks is part of the torch cooling design.

Hmm ok. I suspect that i have a problem with insufficient air flow.
I currently use a plasma that requires 180 lpm, the 1250 needs 189 lpm if
I don't remember wrong. But it can't keep up with air when using the test mode.

Boosted the pressure and got it going!
Plasma-cutted a mounting plate for the T100 torch and did a test run last night.
40 Amp @ 2000 mm/minute, 4 mm steel. Came out good!
I hope that the 1250 soon will replace it's chineese predecessor.
Does the Duramax torches consume less air or is it a similar design regarding the cooling?

Essentially the same air flow. The cooling is different as the Duramax uses some new technology called conical flow, longer nozzle life, squarer , cleaner cuts. The air flow is determined by the nozzle orifice size.....and the orifice size is determined by the amperage/thickness/cut speed desired. If you use the Finecut consumables for 10 gauge and thinner...the air flow will be dramatically lower than when using the 40 amp, 60 amp or 80 amp nozzles.

Most of the time i cut in 4 mm steel.
What i can tell from your cutting charts it's just about
too thick for the fine cut consumables.
It would be great to use the fine cut's though...i cut very
small series and looking for the best cut rather than the speed of the process.

There are a number of users that use the Finecut consumables up to 6mm (1/4")....they will not last as long as the shielded consumables, will cut slower and with a bit more dross (although easy to remove low speed dross). Edge quality is very nice when you do this. You will just have to experiment with speeds, stick with the recommended cut height of 1.5mm (.060") and experiment with cut speed, use a higher pierce height...perhaps about 4 to 5mm and longer pierce delay time to save the orifice from damage during the pierce. I have used finecuts at as much as 50 amps with acceptable life.
