Re: Marine Corps Emblem/Logo
Hi Lisa
I use a formula to figure out the cost
First you size the piece of metal per sq in by the cost per sheet. Then you add the total cut in plus the % you want to add for handling. Then add shop supples then add the cost of the stacks you welded on and labor. Then add the cost of PC and shipping if any and don't forget the tax for Gov. Total everything up and you will have your cost for that price
Ultimately the price is up to you and what the market will bear.
If you do a search some one had posted a formula for this on the site a while back.

Re: Marine Corps Emblem/Logo
Lisa, By my figuring, I would not charge one cent less than $145 PLUS the powder coat, assuming 11G metal! Good Grief! You probably have $20+ in uncut metal and handling by the time the raw metal hits the cutting table. Unless this guy is a really good friend, I would Stick to my Guns. $100 seems not too far above extended cost, depending on your overhead. The guy is getting a steal!...............RussK.

Yea I gotta agree with everone 100. is cheap. I struggle with under charging too. You think "I dont have a lot of time or materials and I wouldnt pay that" But thats cause A. you can make one and B. because you spent a boatload of money on equipment to make it fast and painless to do! Tell your customer if he thinks its too expensive to go price a plasma table to cut his own! he'll be back writing a 175. check with a smile!

Re: Marine Corps Emblem/Logo
Well I can't not say anything. If it was up to me the price on that piece would be around $250. Lots of people don't want to pay anything for art work. Not only is there the cost of your machinery, consumables, etc, electricity, rent or mortgage (portion there of), price of the material and paint - Time on design (or if you're lucky to be on this site) got dxf or pcm file (but someone made it - and believe me it didn't just take 5 minutes to design). Ask how much an hour they make and ask them if they think your time should be any less? Then you may decide you should make even more than $250 for the piece. If you're like us, we really don't get enough money for most of our art work, but let's not give it away. Some of us are actually trying to make a living with our art work and you should get a fair price for your work. Now I'll climb down off my podium. Dang it's a good thing we love doing what we're doing!!

Re: Marine Corps Emblem/Logo
There's a lot of cheapskates around these days. If people don't like what I charge then too bad. It's metal not paper. I don't always charge for artwork because I may use it on another project for a different client and i'm not going to charge someone else for artwork that's already done.I usually make between $700-$900 profit off every 4' x 8' sheet of steel that I buy $100 seems very low, perhaps he might be interested in a vinyl sticker instead.
The karate sign's I made were $600 each plus $125 for installation They are 38" in diameter

When we try to cut these the lines are not connected. Is there an easy way to clean it up or does anyone have a cleaned up version.
Thanks
Thanks

I've seen them on Harley windsheilds, truck dash boards, tool boxes... I've given out over a thousand of these and still love the reaction I get just for giving these away and saying thanks for your service.
