3 piece dragonfly

Post by GoingCustom »

Thank you for all of the requests on posting this. With that said, sorry it took so long, been a busy few weeks. I've tried several times to export it and save as a .dxf, but plasmacam keeps crashing so here is the .pcm file. Hopefully those that asked for it can still use it? On one of the dragonflies, depending on how big it is cut or size of your kerf width, part of the wing near the body may need to be widened. Mine cut through it, but my g/f said I should leave it to give it more of a handmade look if that makes sense? With the 1 piece dragonfly design, I was cutting it roughly 2 feet across. With making it 3 pieces I use up about a 2' by 4' piece of steel. Just thought I'd give a heads up.

What it looks like... The pictures don't really do the subtle change justice, but in person it looks really neat!

Can see in this picture what I was talking about on the wing.

I have the version that I cut flat. I donated the piece to an auction for a child with brain cancer. It turned out really awsome. I am here noticing this 3d version. would anybody have this version in dxf format. Thanks

We cut the one piece option. Then used copper patina on the entire piece. Went back with the torch patina on the grass and dragonflies. Clear coated. They turned our kewl. Thank you again for the file.

I was wondering, for those of you that have cut the 1 piece version of the 3 piece dragonfly, what size did you cut it? I tried about 10 inches and pretty much just toasted the piece. I'm getting ready to install the fine tip consumables on my Hypertherm but I'm not sure how much difference it will make. Just curious how large I should go to keep all of the detail intact. I plan on using 14 gauge.

MetalheadRK - the piece you cut looks great. I can't get a feel for the size though.
