I use 14 gauge cold roll steel, create my design with a grinder, clean and flame with a torch to the colors of my choice. One thing I have learn when flaming don't get the steel too hot or the colors will become very light. Not unless you want the light color. I have flamed some of my pieces to the lighter color. I will share a picture of one of my fish. It turned nice. Actually, it sold soon as I hung it up.

Thanks for the reply and pics. I tried a while back on 14 gauge hot rolled and some 18 gauge stainless and I must have been doing it wrong, maybe too hot because I warped my pieces and didn't get those nice color's.I been using vinegar to clean off the hot rolled do you think there is any difference between the hot and cold rolled as far as bringing those colors out? I was using an oxy/acetylene torch, is that what I should be using?
