Porch Swing

Post by 68Percy »

A couple years ago, a customer wanted me to build him a porch swing and sent me a google image of one with similar design. So I had to kind of reverse engineer some stuff and it didn't turn out half bad. So here's the files if anyone else wants to have a go at it. This particular file is for a 5ft wide swing. I have also made a few more swings that were 4ft wide. Just shorten the width of the seat pans and the two outer back pans. Basically it's 11 gauge for the 3 back pans and 2 seat pans and armrests, and 3/16" for the sides. It's all bolted together with 1/4" bolts so over/under size the holes to however your plasma burns them best. I'll post a pic of the finished swing in a few mins... Files size was too big...

Here's a couple pics of the mock up before paint. Cup holders swing in and out.

Cool file 68Percy. Thanks for the share. May have to make one of these to put down at the pond. With a fishing scene of course.

Very beautiful swing. If you don't mind me asking, what tubing did you use for the frame?

No tubing. It's all plate. All of the plates were bent on 4 sides to make a pan.

this looks great, thanks for the share! Any issues with it being so heavy? I would imagine it could give a kid quite the black eye if he is standing in the wrong place.

What are you charging for them? Those things are really nice and heavy duty! I assume you powder coat them?

It wasn't too heavy. I never did weigh it after assembly, but I imagine all of the slots put it on a pretty good diet. The only concern I had when designing and building it was if the swing was in sun, it would scald your hind end.
