2' X 3' Welding Tables

Post by calibutcher »

I recently finished a 5x10 plasma table build, now that I have most of the kinks worked out I can have some fun! I've been working on some tab and slot welding table designs for the past few weeks and figured I would share with the group.

The first is a 2'X3'fixture block cut out of 1/4" material, I didn't build in any tolerance to the slots so it required some grinding and one of the inner supports is offset 1/4" so it only goes together one way. Other than that I ended up with a pretty nice work surface. I also documented the process on YouTube if you are interested.

The second version is a 2'X3' flat table top cut from 1/4" with a few holes in it for getting everything drawn together. I realized i don't own any of the fancy clamps needed to use the fabrication block so I reverted to this simpler design to use my regular c clamps and stuff. But this design fits together much better no grinding required. And the slots are all done correctly this time so it is impossible to put together wrong.

I look forward to getting involved with this awesome community.

Thanks for sharing.
You brought up clamps; Here is how I am clamping mine last night and finishing today. another member shared a file to make clamps, similar and I had them all nested up to make some, but while I was testing the fit on my table, I found a Vice grip for a drill top table that fit too good. So I went to HF and bought a few more (pictured) coupon got them for about $7.20 each. Worked good for out in the middle but I haven't looked at the top yet, figured I can use them when I do see the top as well.

I bought a 2' X 4' table top from Certiflat (laser cut) then built a base for it so I could fold down the top for storage. I made some clamps from another post here and a different type too. Here are some pictures of them. The last on has a 1" square tube about 12" tall and the arm can slide up or down to a position and then the bolt applies holding pressure on the part to hold it for welding

I can't seem to find the post with these clamp design files, Jester. Any chance you have the files lying around?

Thanks

here is the original post showing the clamp files
http://www.plasmaspider.com/viewtopic.p ... 1&start=25
I had to ping pong the files between software to make them work (size scrambling ??).
I did not cut the pivot holes I drilled them 1/4" and used 1/4" bolts with long shoulders that I cut just long enough to go through the parts and a washer. I used a hammer to mushroom the cut end over the washer. here are the files I used the taller clamp is in SVG format.
