Here's a front bumper in PDF format. Not too hard to change to a dxf.

Do a search for free or online PDF to DXF converters, or try
nirklars.wordpress.com/2015/04/22/pdf-to-dwg-using-free-open-source-inkscape/

You can put all drawing into a dxf this way and work with it in your cutting software.

Awesome info. I've done rear bumpers from scratch and there's alot of head scratching on what the end result will look like on the truck. I like the way this one is designed. For anyone that wants to tackle a bumper project: This pdf just gives you the outter "skin" of the bumper. You'll still need to measure and design vehicle specific mounting brackets and winch mounts for whatever you're working on. It is still a great start though.

I drew each piece according to the dimensions in the pdf file in Autocad. So here is the dxf if anyone wants to play around with it.

I have a set of fab four brackets that were for a 06 dmax. I never used them and sold the truck, but bought the brackets to build a bumper for, if anyone interested in brackets and hardware message me.

I made built the front bumper for my 2000 Z71 using the plans from this thread. I did some HEFTY dimensional changes to the original plans in order to get it somewhat close to fitting the curve of the front of the truck. I drew it all in cad, measured the grill line and modeled that in cad, then started pulling lines and changing dimensions. By the time I was done, I probably would've been better off starting from scratch. I built the rear bumper from scratch and it took WAAAAY less cad time. Rear bumpers are easy though because you don't have to fight with matching the curve and grill lines. Eventually i'll build another front bumper for my truck because there's things that bug me and I really want to change and it'll be easier to start fresh with dimensions that I know are correct.

This is a more recent pic. I had both bumpers sprayed whenever I got the bedliner in the bed done.

This is an EXCELLENT thread!!!! Does anyone have advice on the best way to build a front and rear bumper for a 2016 Duramax? I know the rear has been changed to the step bumpers. From the factory it is all colapseable stamped BS that crumples on impact. My wife "Taco'd" the rear bumper on the only oak tree in a two acre field, and the impact didn't even blow the horn!

Thinking through how to build this, I am questioning the best steel thickness, and any problems ya'll have had with the piece drawing from the heat of welding???? We do a good bit of our fabrication with aluminum, but a bumper is something I am not sure would work with AL. I am worried about cracking and the low modulus of elasticity especially using 6061-T6. Just not sure it would hold up under structural stress that is put on a bumper..... (Especially with a MANIAC drivier!)
