Dairy cow help

Post by welding »

I am working on a sign for a friend. I have this dairy cow but when I cut it out it dosent leave enough material on some of the cuts and it does not look good. Not sure if the lines should be widened or some changed to online cuts. Looking for some help to make this cow look good. Thanks in advance Andy

It would help I you attached the image you are using for us to see. Making the lines wider in the drawing will not help the DXF file. Making the entire cut size will help for leaving material unless the lines are to close to begin with.
What are you cutting and what are you using to cut (tip size) the kerf may be to wide.

We traced this to use on stall signs at our county fair. Lots of nodes though.

The first question to be asked is what kerf width does your cutter leave. Knowing that, you can go about modifying your current drawing (unless it is already too small). I know that my Hypertherm fine cut tips will burn through to the adjacent line if the two lines (in the original drawing, Not the cut path) are closer than .125" (this is a practical margin). This is when I am cutting 10G or thinner. I draw a circle of .125" dia. and use it as a tool to move around the drawing to gauge the distance between lines. You then know if you need to do any moving of features or offsetting. I know that in the work that I do for customers, I am always pushing the limit for smaller sizes. Everyone thinks that our plasma will cut like a laser cutter. Make a test cut on the actual metal and at the speeds you will be using and measure your kerf with a micrometer. Let us know what you come up with. Looking at your drawing I know I could easily modify it to cut well with My equipment. Barring a HUGE kerf, we should be able to make it work for you also!.......RK

Most vector designs programs will allow you to open an SVG and simply Save or Export as a DXF. I use Corel, what do you use?
