Tree frog help
Not sure if I did this correctly, but if someone doesn't mind taking a look at this inkscape vector I would appreciate it! I cleaned up a bunch of extra nodes all around the border, which will hopefully allow a better cut (If I understand correctly).
I still do not understand how to manipulate vector lines to clean up a drawing. I'm sure there is an easy way to join this node to that node....but I haven't figured it out yet.
I can erase and move the vectors around no problem.....but if the "Trace bitmap" function doesn't trace the pirture perfectly (never does?) then I'm left with a partially usable drawing where I might need to join nodes together to cut something out.....so far no good.

Re: Tree frog help?
Looks great! I love frogs, have a bunch of files of frogs. I've never used inkscape. I use Corel, Adobe and Plasma Cam. Nothing traces files perfect. You'll always have to clean them up.

Re: Tree frog help?
I don't use Inkscape either, I gave up with it and bought CorelDraw a few years back, but in Corel you would select all nodes and then convert to curves, then you just drag and move the arrows on the nodes to move the line around as you wish, maybe Inkscape is similar.
I've joined the nodes in Corel Corel

Re: Tree frog help?
Like Murray I gave up on Inkscape too but for a different reason, at the time there were much more tutorials (Google & Youtube) and paid courses available (I bought everything I could find and it's worth it).
If there's one thing I've learned about software, it's that you can mess with it for months or more trying to figure it out, but when you have good teaching info ........................quite different.
Keith.

Apologies, the wife saw me with this frog yesterday and wanted one, I went to cut it and when I imported it into sheetcam I realized it still had some duplicate lines they have now been fixed.

Could you elaborate on the training path you took for CorelDRAW. I have CorelDraw 7 & have been messing with it.
One of the posters on here offers a class but I wanted to at least have some working knowledge before going that route.
Thanks,
Steve

Re: Tree frog help
My daughter saw the one in the above picture and wanted one for her bedroom.
There were a ton of open paths and pretty much a mess of a file when I opened it in DE.
Prolly was program incompatibility. I Had to spend an hour or so basically redrawing it.
She loved it! Thanks for the file!

Re: Tree frog help
Nice work Doug! I opened the original dxf file posted above with Design Edge and it did indeed have 503 unwanted intersections. I selected all and exploded "Ctrl+X" and Linked/Joined "J" using with Link Paths values set to 0.01" and .001" respectively to eliminate all the unwanted intersections. This took several minutes to accomplish. Here is the result in both dxf and pcm formats.tinspark wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 3:55 am My daughter saw the one in the above picture and wanted one for her bedroom.

Re: Tree frog help
Doug - Happy to help!
Here is a process that works for me with great success.
David
Before you convert to cut path I would suggest doing the following.
Step 1 - Under Settings, Offset/Convert, Link Paths set the value for "Gap distance to jump" to 0.01" and the value for "Delete overlapping segments within (inch) to 0.001".
Step 2 - Select your entire drawing and type "Ctrl+X" for Explode, then select your entire drawing again and type "J" for Link/Join.
Step 3 - Select your entire drawing and type "H" for smooth and enter a value of 0.002 and hit enter.
Step 4 - Select your entire drawing and type "D" to detect intersections. If any intersections show up, then repair them and repeat until there are no intersections.
Step 5 - Select your entire drawing and type "N" to convert to cut paths.
