Plasmacam Replacement Cutting Grate DXF File

Post by elf »

At one time I saw a dxf or plasmacam file for the grate. I can not seem to locate it so if somebody could repost it that would be AWSOME.
Thanks

Here you go. I just bought some table extensions for my plasmacam allowing me to cut 8 foot sheets and I need to cut an extra set of grates myself.

Great file. Would you be willing to repost the file in dxf format or anything besides pcm. I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks again.

You can buy table extensions that extend the PlasmaCam table from 4 x 4 to 4 x 8 feet. You buy them from the Plasmacam Web site and cost $249 each (two are needed). The extensions allow you to cut a full 4 x 8 sheet without having to index anything larger than 4 x 4. You have to make a couple of joining plates to join them but is no big deal. I haven't installed them yet, I just received them but will install them when I get through with my current orders. According to George from PlasmaCam Support, once you install the extensions, you can no longer get support from PlasmaCam, not sure why. Hope this answers your question.

Are those the side rails that are used for the drive and gantry ?

Or are they the table base extensions?

With out the gantry ext. you can't move past 4 ft and cut any thing.

The extension rails come with gear racks mounted inside ready to be used with the gantry & drive allowing you to cut sheets up to a full 8 feet.
You can buy them on the PlasmaCam web site under the ?owner?s community? (http://www.plasmacam.com/comlogin.php), log in, then go to ?order parts? then scroll down to ?left rail (w/gear rack)? and the same with the right rail, price $249 each.

I haven?t installed them yet, but will in a couple of weeks. There are some pictures on the Plasma Pig Blog posted by a person that has already done it. (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Plasmapig ... 1/pic/list)

The whole process seems straight forward and it an inexpensive way to double the size of your table.

Hope this helps, If you have any other questions, let me know and I'll try to answer them.

Extending the table does NOT end your Tech Support. We just can't help you if your run into problems extending the table. The only help I can give you is this - make a plate to bolt the rails together instead of welding them.

Samson Grate

Post by rpage »

Here are the Samson grates. I have NOT cut these yet. A drafting friend of mine (actually teaches drafting) took two of my grates when I was building my machine and put them in to autocad. So these should be very accurate. At some point I will cut these and give them a go. 16 gauge cold rolled is what I will use. I need to double check the originals and see if they are 16 gauge.

Anyway, enjoy.

By the way, Plasmacam offers free tech support to owners of DHC, DHC2, SAMSON and 98-Z machines no matter if is new or used. There is no charge to register your used machine.

You mean the one on the DHC2 or DHC? What was the problem? George has always been helpful to me except when I bought my machine from a friend, PCam wouldn't help me until I paid them a 500 dollar transfer fee then still wanted 50 bucks for a printed manual! Had I known that I woulda negotiated it in the price from my friend. Now if I just had the money for a DHC2!

Plasmacam height control

Post by geo4932 »

Seems to be some misunderstanding about how to calibrate the Digital Height Control.
First set your cut height to .07
Next set the ARC VOLTAGE SHIFT (AVS). This is the important setting. It depends on the brand and model of plasma torch and nozzle size you use.
Here is a quick list for the most popular cutters.
Hypertherm 1000 w/ 40 amp nozzle AVS 1.05 60 amp nozzle 1.25 Finecut .675
Hypertherm 1250 or 1650 w/ 40 amp AVS 1.15 60 amp 1.30 80 amp 1.32 Finecut .700 100 amp 1.35
Hypertherm 30 AVS .825
Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38 through 152 AVS is .750
Miller Spectrum series AVS 1.30

The ARC VOLTAGE SHIFT can be tweaked to get the torch to stay at the height you want by increasing or decreasing it in .020 increments. Increase to cut higher and decrease to go down. Once the AVS is calibrated you simply adjust the Cutting Height setting as needed.

George it seems like after setting the AVS, putting in thickness, initializing the machine and all that it still wont hold the cutting height when the metal has any warp or unevenness to it at all. It doesn't seem to adjust at the rate the machine cuts "even if slower cutting 70-90 ipm" I finally gave up and I seem to have to suck smoke and watch the height manually thru the whole cut and wouldnt dare take my hand off the z axis button. Thats why I wish I had a DH2

that is the problem with the DHC that is why they they changed the height control. showed it cutting corregated metal on the video dont understand.($5000.00) upgrade. If it worked the way it showed it you would not need the up grade. you have to baby sit the DHC. the DHC 2 is great .I run both machines. I.wish I had the DHC 2 at school

I have a DHC and I just cut some metal that had about a 2" rise in the middle, like it came off a roll and didn't make it through the straightener, the Z axis followed it just fine. In fact, it was one of the most dross free cuts I have had in a long time!
