My DHC seems to have problems when the torch moves to pierce and the material is warped, even a little. Plus my z axis motor gets hung up sometimes. I think that the computer is trying to move to the pierce height but either the material is at a different height, or the z motor didn't move as much as it was supposed to. Usually I just set my machine to pause before cutting when I think the material is too warped. This lets me manually adjust the height. I have also replaced the z motor a couple of times. It helps to have flat grating too. Thanks for the file.

just changed my grates. great job on on the layout. fell together and did it alone. now to the Z motor. mine as well has always seem to be sticky. so i would put so dry lube on the threads thinking that dust build up was the problem. when i went to reset the hieght for the new grates it wouldn't move at all. not even with force. took apart the cariage thinking it was the motor. once the motor was removed and tested and fuond to be working fine i cleaned the cariage and found the rollers guides were sticking. behind the rollers are a jam nut. this was set to tight and bound up the bearings.once free to move the machine works like it never has. its been like this since day one. now it has so much vertical movement. hope this might be helpfull to others.

azfabshop,
What plasma cutter are you using?
Check to see if you are actually reading the arc voltage.
Go to Machine - Diagnostics.
The Voltage Reading is on the right of the screen.
Click the Trigger Control box and the torch will fire. What voltage do you get?

The Digital Height Control is the same for DHC or DHC2. They will both cut corrugated.
The DHC2 has Ohmic Sensing for pierce which the DHC does not have. The DHC presses on the metal to set the pierce height like all the other plasma tables.

Check the setting for the "Z-axis Speed". For the DHC the speed must be under 50. For the DHC2 the speed is 104.

Usually the problem we see with the height control is when the Torch Control Cable is wired in reverse polarity inside the cutter. On Hypertherm cutters, the Work clamp (or ground) is + and the electrode is -
If you have a Powermax 1000, 1250 or 1650 the Work clamp is terminal J15+ and the electrode is terminal J16-
The BLACK wire goes to J15 and the RED wire goes to J16.
If the cable is reversed the voltage will not read and the height control does not work.
The typical Arc Voltage Shift is
Hypertherm 380 .8
Hypertherm 600 or 900 with standard nozzle 1.30 w/Finecut nozzle .7
Hypertherm 1000 with 60 amp 1.25 40 amp 1.05 Fine cut .675
Hypertherm 1250, 1650 with 80 or 100 amp 1.35 40 amp 1.15 Finecut .7
Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster series .750
Miller Spectrum 1000, 2050, 3080 Arc voltage shift 1.3

Great grate file. It's Samson, though, not PlasmaCam. I do have a suggestion. I am going to change the lengths of the slots at the cutout so it is a little more stout there. I think somewhere around 1/2 to 3/4 will be right. I'm also going to make one side vertical so I have a solid reference for cuts. With your permission, I'll post my changes.

George

(edited in) OK the hard stops are built in to the grid, so that isn't really needed. Great job!

Brian

Have you ever thought of cutting a slight notch in the lower area for cutting tube so that the square or round tube would index into the same spot each time?

Hey there! George I was able to test voltage during firing and it topped around 8.7 volts. Does that seem right? Again I'm using a Hypertherm 900 Thanks for your input!

Hey there MQUICK you are seeing the same thing I did. The hard stops are built in. The grate is on the side of the cutout and the 4 like parts will give you the hard stop. They are inside the cutout. The beveled edges aren't really necessary. Whenever you make replacement slats, it wouldn't take much to do the cutouts to them, though. Good idea.

Accessing files does not work after paying the $20 for the sample files and upgrading. Any idea why this might be the case?

rpage wrote:Here are the Samson grates. I have NOT cut these yet. A drafting friend of mine (actually teaches drafting) took two of my grates when I was building my machine and put them in to autocad. So these should be very accurate. At some point I will cut these and give them a go. 16 gauge cold rolled is what I will use. I need to double check the originals and see if they are 16 gauge.

Anyway, enjoy.
