Here's a pic I have of one we did a while back. Easy to assemble, just be sure to adjust slots accordingly for differences in material thickness. On the bright side only 28 slots...an easy one.

Do my eyes deceive me? I zoom in 300%+ to your unfinished pic...the welds, by all outward appearances appear to be tig. Nice touch!

Gauge is really a personal choice. Some people use thin material like 16ga., I used 12ga. for all my art, even these butterflies and the dragonflies. Gave my work a little "heft" if you will among other things. The important thing though is to be sure the slots are sized properly for ease of assembly no matter the ga. material used. (Made one from 10ga. with 48" wingspan )
