What do you use to attach the painted pieces to the backing plate? I didn't know if it was some sort of glue, or maybe 3M double sided tape?

I ended up welding small metal standoffs to the back of the 2016 on the one I am doing then drilled small holes in the back plate to line up with the standoffs. Used JB Weld and it worked fine but its a slow process. For the name I am going to buy magnets and JB Weld them to the letters then stick them to the back plate. The face and hairpiece I will weld standoffs to the pieces, holes to align with standoffs and then tack weld.

Super Magnets seemed to be the perfect solution. JB Welded to back plate, although not necessary it just keeps the Magnets in place. Worked great and art pieces can be removed for dusting.

Next time try double sided 3 m tape you can get it at Home depot about $15. a roll but there's a lot of it. works great indoors or out.
