Plasma software newbie

Post by Prototypetom »

Hi everyone amazing site!!

I'm just looking at gathering software to create my own files what would you suggest as a basic starter package. I have access to solid works and at home I already have inkscape.

I'm a welder looking to broader my horizons and do some cool projects other than automotive rollcage a and fabrication

Keep up the good work

You have great software already, solid works is excellent if you know how to use it. I personally use CorelDraw.

I use draftsight for parts and cutting shop from arbor image for my art stuff.
There is a learning curve for these programs but it's worth it.

I am new to this site and plasma CNC. I have Illustrator, Inkscape, Viacad and Mach3. I have been using the trial version of Sheetcam and I am thinking I need to purchase the license. I am using Sheetcam to generate the G-code, Is this the best choice for G-code? Except for the limited lines of code, I am having no trouble with Sheetcam. Thanks so much for your advice!

Yes do buy a SheetCam license it is needed for larger files and use the "Developer" version as it has more functions. I know some say it is not stable but I have used it for years with no problems. Remember you can import both DXF and SVG files, DXF from CAD and SVG for art type drawings. Inkscape is a great program with a large number of youtube tutorials to help learn it, works great for tracing images too.
