While using solid edge I can insert text from "insert" menu "text" I place the font onto my 2d model view, no issue.
At this point I cannot edit the text (break-apart/manipulate text), it has a bounding type box around it and I cannot remove the bounding box . I have tried unblocking/ungrouping with no luck, and when I tried sending it to sheetcam the bounding box came up as unclosed lines.
my work around has been to go to inkscape, insert text and save as dxf, open new file in solidedge and copy past to the original solidedge file and then I can edit in solid edge if I still need to (normally all my text edits are manipulated in inkscape at this point).
If someone has a solution I sure would love to hear it.

Re: Solid Edge 2 D drafting text box issue
I think when you add text to a CAD program it is not part of the drawing so you cannot work on it. I just checked a simple drawing saved as DFX and in a IrfanView display the text was there but did not show in SheetCam.
I have also used inkscape to put text in a drawing for cutting there are many tricks for manipulating text into all kinds of shapes.

Re: Solid Edge 2 D drafting text box issue
Sounds like I need to use the inkscape workaround. To manipulate files, I have to use multiple prg's.
Its all good as long as I can achieve end results.. sure would be nice though to have one prg do it all, then I could sit back and just watch.
Thanks for the reply.

Try selecting the text box, edit properties, de-select show box. That should stop the box from showing around the text

Re: Solid Edge 2 D drafting text box issue
I have found that text does not cut in CAM. It has to be converted to vectors. In Autocad text has to be exploded from Express Tools/Text/Explode Text.
I would assume Solid Works has something similar.
Another workaround is to create the text and then trace it.
Or what I do now is use Stencil Fonts from http://www.cadkas.de/ehome.php, save as dxf and import into my drawing and manipulate.

Thanks Dennis for the reply I totally appreciate all the responses.tnbndr wrote:I have found that text does not cut in CAM. It has to be converted to vectors.
