Add color to different parts of design.

Post by grindergary »

I am trying to figure out how to add different color to a design. The balls on the top of crown are white and the ring is red with gold color in the letters. I think there is a way to do this but just can't figure it out. Any help is appreciated. I have attached a picture of the cut and a badge picture. I am not trying to copy every color, just the main ones.

TYIA

Gary

I can't upload a 450 kb picture so I attached the DXF.

I'm not familiar with your process but I might suggest that your circle text be cut out of a ring the size of your red area and painted red. The background would be solid which would be painted gold and the red ring with cut out text could be adhered to the background.. That part isn't hard. I don't know what you might do with the crown.

Thanks for your reply.

What I mean is to do the colors in Corel so my customer gets an idea of what I am trying to do.

No sense painting it and then having to change it. Just thought it would be easier in Corel.

Thanks

That is alot easier. I don't have time right now but if someone doesn't get back to you I will start working with you.

Everything is a separate entity which will not allow the parts to be filled with color. The first operation will be to join all the ends which may appear to be connected but still need to be joined. We will use the join command to accomplish this.
Using the pick tool marquee select the complete drawing. Then using the shape tool select all the nodes. Go up to the arrange menu and select Join Curves. Set the gap tolerance to .01 (no larger than necessary) I use standard units and you may have to adjust to metric. Extend should also be selected. Hit Apply.
That should join the ends and for complete fillable parts.
Drag any color from your color pallet to fill the large outline. You should notice some line have disappeared. the out side part needs to be moved to the back. When that is done the lines should show back up. If my attached file goes through this is where you should end up. Just the beginning but remember Education is not cheap nor quick. Dont worry if things don't work. We will just keep working on it.

Thank you srp,

Yes it is a learning curve for sure. Most of my work is industrial so I don't get much chance to work with corel.

I appreciate your help and I will keep learning.

thanks

I have attached a file with some of the work done. You have chosen an ambitious project. for the white pearls on the top you could draw a circle and fill with white, duplicate and position over each spot. The white fur on the bottom you might create a object to be placed on the layer above the background. Any of your closed parts if combined with the background will show as a cutout . The ring with the text is a separate item place on top of the background. I find it handy to copy some work off to the side to alter or add so I am not working on top of the complete piece - less chance or messing up real bad.
