Computer Storage/Set-Up

Post by amusick10 »

Hey guys,

I am fresh out of a rebuild and should have everything dialed in tonight and was curious how everyone handles storing/mounting their computer, controller, and plasma torch.

I currently use a laptop that I take back and forth to the shop so that part of the equation needs to be easy access but the other two can be locked away. I'd like to do something tucked under the table or on wheels as I plan on building a gantry to roll over the table for loading and need clear sides.

In addition to seeing how everyone lays things out, hoe are you handling the excess cable lengths? Is coiling them up and hanging them out of the way an issue? Any problem with having the controller too close to the plasma torch?

Any pics of how you guys are rigged up would be awesome, thanks in advance!

I use a desktop computer with a 20" screen, files are transported back and forth from the house on a USB flash drive. All the CAD work is done in the house (much more comfortable). I added on to the end of my table like a desk with the monitor and keyboard on top and the rest of the junk on the lower shelf, all cords go up to the ceiling and then back down to the table. In the house I have two computers hooked to one monitor and keyboard, (switching is just a push of a button) one is just for CAD/CAM work and does not connect to the internet, the other is newer and does everything else (email, internet, banking etc.)

Seperate the plasma / from the electronics.
Tonight I will try to post a picture of my hanging plasma, The electronics are very similar to Arclights on the opposite end.
For drawing its like above post, somewhere else.

I used a cheap tool cart from HF.
I cut the front off and hinged it so it folds down and added a drawer that slides out for the keyboard. I mounted the monitor on the lid so that when I'm all done I just close it up and everything stays pretty clean.

Very nice guys! What do y’all do as far as cable management?

Do you just keep the controller under the table and just have the USB coming to the comp?

acourtjester, did you buy those or build?
