table sludge disposal

Post by sawdust1 »

What do you do with your table sludge? I cleaned out my table and was surprised at how much crud there was, must use it more than I realize.
The dropouts are easy to grab and recycle, what do you do with the wet heavies?

I shovel it into an empty 55 gallon drum and then take it to the scrap yard with my other scrap. They dump the drum out and I'm on my way.

I dry mine out (water table) and then my metal recycler takes it.

Here In Florida you take a long weekend on the boat and by the time you get back the table usually is bone dry!

I was on the scrap run today, 3 ton of skeletons, asked about sludge and they won't take it anymore here, need to find another outlet myself for it now!

The first time I emptied the table, I used 5 gallon buckets. The scrap yard gave me crap but took it anyway. They also managed to break every bucket i had which cost more than they paid me for the scrap steel.

Now I look on Craigslist for a free dead refrigerator or freezer and lay it on the trailer. I drill a few holes in the liner and fill it up. Most of the water drains out rather quickly and I don't want the freezer back so we're all good. But they still give me a hard time over the steel dust. If they decided to not pay me for it, I really wouldn't mind because i just want it gone.

Take a barrel and drill some smaller holes on the bottom and let it drain outside.
