Machine torch question

Post by bigworm36 »

Hi guys I have a quick question with my machine torch on my plasma system. I noticed a gap between my retaining cap and the torch. I screwed the cap down tight until it stopped but did not want to force it any more. Is this gap normal I have read the whole manual and don't remember seeing this gap in any of the diagrams. Thank you . Picture is to large to load

Yes that is normal on a hypertherm torch. Don't tighten too much, messes up o ring and can cause torch to not fire.

On the power max machine torch you only want to snug up the retaining body, over tightening the body can actually damage the safety circuit pins that trip off the power source when retainer is removed while the plasma power source is powered up

That is good to know. I figured it was normal but figured I would check. Thank you for the help.

Actually overtightening will not damage anything. What it will do is distort the swirl ring, which can cause a stuck consumables error code and misfiring. Just snug the cap and it is good! Jim Colt Hypertherm

My mistake, early on we operated 3 Hypertherm 1000's with the T60 machine torches. On two of the machine torches at different times we had to replace the sensor switch, kit part number 128639 . Hypertherms phone tech support at the time told us we were over tightening. However upon inspection when we replaced the switch it seemed that the sensor switch still had a little travel left in the plunger even with the body on tight.
Just as Jim Colt states above we only snug the cap with two fingers and they have worked great since.
