What is your choice of Plasma Cutter?

Post by KM Koncepts »

I'm trying to come up with a general consensus on the site of what plasma units are being used. I would greatly appreciate all the information I can receive. Looking for make and models. Thank You!

Powermax30XP, 45, 45XP, 65, 85! Biased a bit though! If I had 3 phase power in my shop I'd have an HPR130XD high definition plasma. Jim Colt Hypertherm

Ten years ago I bought a DynaTorch table with a HyperTherm 1250 torch. Sold it too a good friend 5 years ago. Just like the bunny and the Timex, keeps on going. Never a single problem except ones caused by operator.

Awesome I appreciate all the feedback I'm getting. I figured hypertherm would be the dominant for sure. I have some products I'm developing, I'll post here soon that could be beneficial to everyone. I can't spoil any goods yet but by Christmas hopefully. Thank you everyone!

Hypertherm PowerMax 1000 and PowerMax 800. I can't give an honest opinion on other brands because I haven't used them but you won't go wrong with Hypertherm.

I have a Miller Cutmate 375. Bought it new many years ago, only goes up to 27 amps and for what I do it is excellent. I do wish that Miller had a Jim Colt!
My only issue has been the torch handle, couple times I have had to dismantle it and wiggle wires. I also wish that I could swap a machine torch onto it.
It is not designed for a remote start, bit of rewiring solved that.

Over the years we have had a few different Plasma power sources in our shop ,very early miller spectrums that were nothing but problems all the way to the model 3080s.
A couple of Thermal dynamics and Hypertherms, never tried the Lincoln plasma so I know nothing in regards to it.
Our first Hypertherm we purchased around 14 years ago it's a model 900 that we had a machine torch on after that we bought a couple of 1000 with machine torches and then a HPR 130. We have never had any problems with the Hypertherms even the old 900 we removed the machine torch and installed a hand torch on it after the 1000s went on line and still use if often for miscellaneous around the shop, we shut off the main power to them about once a year ,pull the covers and blow them out(plasma dust etc)been great machines. In all fairness the Miller 3080s have worked good for us as well however all have been retrofitted to Thermal Dynamics 1 torch.
