What's the least amount of space between cuts

Post by gamble »

Say you are doing small detail work or letters. What is the least amount of material you space each cut out?
I have some letters to cut but due to the space requirements there may be maybe .040 between each cut. Can't imagine doing a lot of these that they all turn out so well even after grinding the back

I typically try to leave at least .125" between everything, but when that doesn't work i've found .100" is about as small as you want without it being able to snap right off. That's in 1/8" thick material as i usually don't cut anything thinner than this.

I was leaving .13 between letters (per the drawing) in some 14ga (with finecuts), and it was turning out very nice. I think I could probably go down to .8 or so (1.5-2x kerf width), but I haven't had time to test that idea out.

I've never actually measured but I've gone so low that the metal between the cuts burns away. I would say above post is right, somewhere between 1.5-2x kerf width.

Fine cut consumables running lowest amperage as possible I can get away with .08 spacing between lines on the cad......it will end up with about .05 actual web thickness on the part.
